  TBA (Trockenbeerenauslese)

Trockenbeerenauslese also known as TBA is the German version of Sauternes and many claim it is even better. It is the ripest of all the Pradikats in the QMP category of German/Austrian wine categories. Trocken means dry and beeren is berries. In other words the noble rot shrivels the grape to almost a raisin. The TBA is pretty rare because the must weights need to be way higher than for the beerenauslese. The potential alcohol needs to be higher than that for Sauterenes. (and that perhaps gives rise to the better-than-Sauternes claim) Given these factors TBA's are not always produced every year, particularly in Austria and hence they are very special and highly sought after.
